Where the arts and gastro food collide in a fomer hydraulic power station
The Wapping Project

You might not expect to find such a hidden treasure whilst exploring the back streets of Wapping, but this dramatic venue has been creatively revitalised whilst still keeping its former power station status clearly on display

Hanging chain at WappingHydraulic power
The Wapping Hydraulic Power Station (built 1890) was originally run by the London Hydraulic Power Company in the East End of London at Wapping. At first it operated using steam and later it was converted to use electricity. It was used to power machinery, lifts (elevators), and so on, in the local area.

Arts and food
It??s conversion to an arts centre and restaurant followed its closure as a pumping station in 1977 with exhibitions held in the basement and the main ground floor hall housing the restaurant.

The Wapping proejct utilises the machinery as a curious integral part of the restaurant, caf?? bar and arts centre.
