A watering point for steam engines
Midland Railway water tower
It is now hard to see how this tower could have been used to supply water to the steam trains of the Midland Railway.
Midland Railway built this watering facility to cater for its steam trains. This Gothic Style tower was built with brick and dressed with Portland stone.
Originally the tower was 300 metres further south. It is a listed building and so could not be destroyed when the Channel Tunnel Rail link was built through its original situation. Instead it was moved in large pieces and rebuilt next to the canal just by the Camley Street Nature Park.
