Interpreting images of Jupiter
Astronomy Unit

Astronomers at Queen Mary are analysing data from the Cassini mission. The space craft sent back images of Jupiter for six months.

Red_spot_and_Io_from_Cassini (c) NASAProfessor Murray is a member of the imaging science team which is analysing the data from Jupiter. One of the aims is to learn more about the way that gases circulate in the planet's atmosphere.

Scientists have long tried to account for the pattern of stripes seen around Jupiter. The new data is making a possible to give a more complete description of the weather on the planet.
