Kielder Water
Kielder Water and Forest Park are together the largest man-made lake in Europe and Britain??s largest forest.
The facts and figures for the area are amazing and give some idea of the scale of Kielder. The Lake has a shore line of 27 miles and the Forest covers 62,000 hectares, with 150 million standing trees.
There are a large range of activities that can be undertaken at Kielder which allow visitors to enjoy the beauty of the area. The area can be explored on foot, boat, horse or bike and fishing and inland sailing are available on Kielder water. The forest itself is mainly populated by Sitka and Norway Spruce and is home to the native red squirrel and 6,000 roe deer.
The Bird of Prey centre can also be visited at Kielder and you can see over 28 species of bird including kestrels, Falcons, Owls and Kookaburra.
Also on site is Kielder Castle, which houses exhibitions on the forest and birds of prey, and numerous sculptures and other visual art, including James Turrell??s ??Skyspace??.
