Going Underground
Killhope Lead Mining Museum

See how miners worked and lived with a visit down the mine at Killhope.

You will be kitted out in a hard hat and wellies and given a miner's lamp for an hour long guided tour along the original tunnel to see for yourself how miners worked in the Victorian era. When you surface you can also dress up in Victorian clothes and discover how the miners lived and worked in the Mineshop. You will also get to view Northern England's largest working water wheel and can visit the world's largest Spar Box exhibition which the Killhope miners made to display the minerals they discovered whilst digging for lead ore.
Whilst at Killhope you can also walk around the reservoirs and woodland, which is home to a colony of the endangered red squirrels.
