Murder on the Nile?
Life and Death in Ancient Egypt
Scientists at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle have used cutting edge technology to scan a mummy from the Hancock Museum collection to find out how it died.
Curators at the Hancock Museum have teamed up with scientists at the RVI to investigate the life and death of Egyptian mummys who live thousands of years ago.
They hope that by using modern medical scanning techniques they will be able to learn more about how and why the mummys died. The museum has four mumified heads and when two of them were first scanned ten years ago questions were raised about the causes of death.
The Hancock Museum is also launching a new exhibition - Egypt Revealed: Life and Death in Ancient Egypt - which will run from July 30 2005 to April 23 2006.
