City Hall

City Hall is a distinctive glass building on the south bank of the Thames near Tower Bridge. The building was designed by Foster and Partners. The curving building has a reduced surface area and as small an area as possible open to direct sunlight on its south side.

City Hall rampDesigned to be green
Thanks to its design the new City hall uses a quarter of the energy needed by other office buildings providing similar facilities.

In cold weather the building takes advantage of the heat generated by computers and lights. This energy is recycled. The system collects energy at its core and redistributes it to the spaces that need warming.

In hot weather ground water from deep boreholes circulates to cool the building. This water is then used in toilets and for irrigation. This saves on mains water.
