Protecting the public in relation to food
Food standards agency
Science funded by the Food Standards Agency helps the Agency understand food issues so that it can defend the public interest in all matters to do with food.
The Agency needs good science to make sure that its advice to the public is reliable and up-to-date.
The Agency has its own in-house experts. Their job is to keep a close watch on food safety issues. They also keep an eye on new issues.
Some food issues are very controversial. When there are differences of view the Agency seeks an opinion from independent experts.
