The Office for Science and Innovation

The Office of Science and Innovation (OSI), within the DTI, was responsible for UK Science Policy. It controlled the government funding of basic research through the Research Councils. Now the department has been reorganised and this entry will be updated as soon as more information is available.

Entrance to DTI officesThe OSI advised Government departments. The aim was to ensure that new policies takes into account scientific advice and evidence.
 
It also kept government ministers up to date with new issues and new technologies such as climate change, energy resources and nanotechnology.
 
The Office was home to the Government Chief Scientific Adviser who provides leadership for scientists and engineers within the Civil Service and working across government.
