Trams have returned to the streets of Manchester

Manchester tramIn the city centre the trams run at speeds up to 30 mph on newly laid tram rails.

Further out much of the running is on old railway lines. On these tracks the trams run faster at speeds up to 50 mph.

The trams themselves are products of the European union with work being done in Italy and Germany as well as the UK.

The whole system is overseen from the ??9 million control room at Queens Road.
