Blackpool Tower: Designed and Made in Manchester.
Maxwell & Tuke Architects and Heenan & Froude Co.
Did you know that the tower, the North-West??s most remarkable landscape, was actually designed in Manchester and its steel girders were manufactured in Newton Heath?
Blackpool is a seaside town which is found on the North-West coastline. Childhood memories conjure up images of donkey rides on the beach, candyfloss, multi-coloured Blackpool Rock, eating fish and chips on the promenade, the Ferris wheel on Central Peer and rides on the tram.
Blackpool boasts one of the most exciting funfairs in the world, The Pleasure Beach. As well as rides to suit all ages, from the cup and saucer ride and Alice In Wonderland Ride to The Revolution and The Big Dipper, The Pleasure Beach is also home to the biggest roller coaster in the United Kingdom, The Pepsi Max Big One.
Blackpool is as exciting by night as it is by day. As the sun descends into the horizon, Blackpool is lit-up by it??s ??illuminations??, coloured light-shows that decorate the seafront.
One of the most remarkable features of Blackpool is Blackpool Tower. The Tower stands proudly at approximately 518 feet above the promenade. It is made up of 3, 478 tonnes of steel and 352 tonnes of cast iron. The Tower is a centre of entertainment. It houses an aquarium, Jungle Jim activity area, an opulent Ballroom, shops, the Tower Lounge Karaoke Bar, the famous Tower Circus, and the ??Walk of Faith??, a glass floor which looks down onto the seafront 380 feet below!
