??Apeeling?? New Snacks!
Manchester Scientists Recycle Vegetable and Fruit Skins into Tasty Snacks!

After peeling an orange, potato or carrot, their skins are usually destined to litter landfill sites, which produce scars on the lush countryside, but thanks to food scientists at Manchester Metropolitan University this may not be the case! They have found the ??waste?? forward!

Funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Food Scientists have committed themselves to a three year-long project in which they have created healthy snacks from fruit and vegetable skins.

The idea of eating banana skins and broccoli stems hardly sets the saliva flowing and stomachs rumbling but in a taste test conducted by the food scientists found that 96% of the sample liked the apple, orange and tomato-based snacks! Paul Ainsworth, Professor of Food Science at the University, replies: ??We are convinced these products are marketable. They taste fantastic, are low fat and low in calories.?? Indeed, the new healthy snacks could ??waste?? away those waistlines!

??Peeling?? deeper into issues surrounding these products, the snacks may encourage people to eat healthier as well as providing a solution to the major problem of human waste but how do people feel about buying back the waste they have discarded? Would you eat other people??s waste products? Despite these questions, a manufacturer has shown interest in launching the products. It seems only a matter of time until these ??apeeling?? snacks appear on supermarket shelves near you!
