What a Load of Rubbish!
The University of Salford Offers a Degree in Waste Management and Disposal.

We live in a society that wastes just as much as it consumes. Everything we buy comes with layer upon layer of packaging, from microwave meals and toys to furniture and electrical appliances.

What happens to our waste?

We simply throw it in the bin or take it to a recycling facility. From there, it ends up at a land-fill site or ??tip??. Such methods of waste disposal have long been scrutinized by environmentalists, scientists and the media alike. Residents local to these waste sites complain about the noise, smell, the scarring of the countryside, and safety issues surrounding current waste disposal methods.

Looking to the future, what can be done?

With landfill sites filling fast and unable to ??deal?? with the increasing volume of cardboard boxes, plastic containers, clinical waste and glass bottles, new methods of safe waste disposal are crucial. The School of Environment and Life Sciences at the University of Salford offer a course in waste management which aims to educate people about the impact waste has on the environment and aspires to find new ways or effective and environmentally-friendly of waste control as well as recognising waste disposal as an industry in its own right.

With increasing concerns about the future of waste disposal, such courses are definitely not a ??waste?? of time!
