Sustaining the Earth
Earth Balance

A living and working 220 acre site created to show how natural resources can be sustained and energy harvested without waste or pollution.

There are a number of green businesses on site including a brewery which produces organic beer and a recycled textile company who even hire out fancy dress costumes.
The energy systems on site include a 60kw wind turbine, a 30kw Bio diesel generator, solar panels and a thermal storage unit which all contribute to the energy needed to run the site. Earth Balance Wind Turbine
However it is through the various walks around the area that visitors can appreciate how the site works towards sustainability. A 30 acre Willow Biomass is used to produce energy and the willow is also used for basket making and living fence construction. An Apiary produces honey and wax and polytunnels are used to grow vegetables all year round. Throughout the site sculptures by Gilbert Ward can be viewed and wildlife and farm animals can be seen.
