Why is Brindley place so named?
James Brindley was the architect behind the Birmingham Fazeley Canal.
James Brindley rose to prominence in 1765 with the construction , under his supervision, of the Bridgewater Canal from the coal mines in Worsley to Manchester. This feat of engineering lead to him being appointed to commence work on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal in 1766 and three years later to be involved in the construction of the Birmingham , Droitwich and Coventry canals.
Despite having very little formal education, James Brindley made his mark on Britain's Canal System designing over 375 miles of waterway before overwork and diabetes lead to an untimely death in 1772.
So if you've ever wondered why Brindley place is so-called, it's a tribute to the Father of Canals, James Brindley.
