Science at 10 Downing Street

Number 10 Downing Street is not just the home of the Prime Minister and a place to entertain distinguished visitors; it is also a place where people work to develop government policy. Over 200 people work behind the front door of number 10. Included in their brief is science policy in the UK.

Funding for science
Government funds science to the tune of ??3.4 billion per year. The director general of science and innovation gives advice about the distribution of all this money.
 
Controversial issues
The government has a chief scientific adviser who is head of the Office of Science and Innovation (OSI). OSI advises the Prime Minister on science policy, issues related to science and society and opportunities for innovation in science-based industry.
