Ovarian Cancer Screening
UKCTOCS

There is a national study looking into ovarian cancer screening called UK Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS) Study, the Psychosocial part of which is being run from the Gynaecological Oncology Unit at Bart's and the London NHS Trust.

The study
The study will last 10 years and will involve 200,00 women, aged 50-74. The aim is to assess women's emotional responses to ovarian cancer screening.

Half that number will form the control group, who will just fill in questionnaires at regular intervals, while the other groups which will receive blood tests to check the potential risk of developing this form of cancer.

Outcomes
The results will be published at the end of the study and if the conclusions show that such screening is beneficial, the results will be presented to government as a case for a national screening programme to be implemented.
