Selling Like Hot Cakes
Greater Manchester Boasts the Creation of the World-Renowned Eccles Cake!

What is an Eccles Cake?

An Eccles Cake is a round, flat cake filled with raisins that can be eaten cold or warm. It takes its name from its place of origin: Eccles, Greater Manchester.

When was the first Eccles Cake made?

The first Eccles Cake was made in the late Eighteenth Century. In 1793, a small corner shop on Vicarage Road in Eccles began selling these delicious cakes. Proving popular with the local residents, the Eccles Cake was proving to be a lucrative asset. By 1818, the Eccles Cake was being exported world-wide.

Where can I buy an Eccles Cake?

Eccles Cakes are available from the majority of supermarkets. If your local supermarket does not sell these tasty cakes, why not take a trip to Eccles and enjoy an Eccles cake knowing you are eating a little bit of history.
