Transporter Bridge

The most famous River Tees crossing has put Middlesbrough on the map after featuring on TV and film

The Transporter Bridge has always been famous in the North East but recent appearances on Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Billy Elliott have put it firmly on the world map.
Built in 1911 it is the longest operational bridge of its kind in the world. Up to 200 passengers or 7 vehicles can cross the bridge at a time, suspended in a gondola 160 feet above the River Tees. Weather permitting the bridge operates every 15 minutes daily.
