Sydney Harbour Bridge

One of the most famous landmarks down under was actually built on Teesside.

Sydney Harbour Bridge was opened on March 19th 1932 after an epic journey from the other side of the world. It was constructed on Teesside by internationally reknowned bridge builders Dorman Long who also built the Tyne Bridge and Newport Bridge.

The Sydney Harbour bridge is partially modelled on the Tyne Bridge and is the largest steel arch bridge in the world. It is 1149 metres long, contains 52800 tonnes of steel and carries 8 vehicle lanes, 2 railway lines, a footpath and cycleway.
