One giant leap for man kind...
The South Tyneside Planetarium and Observatory

Do you want to view the night sky from anywhere on earth? You don??t need to book a round the world ticket, just visit the Planetarium at South Tyneside College.

The planetarium shows the night sky from anywhere on earth, at any time of year including phases of the moon, galaxies, stars, planets, eclipses, and motion of the planets. A qualified astronomer commentates and the audience is invited to ask questions at the end of the show. Direct viewing of the night sky is also available through a 40cm Newtonian telescope with a qualified astronomer as guide. The planetarium hosts events throughout the year such as the recent Transit of Venus breakfast and runs junior astronomy and solar system clubs.
