Tyne to Go Green
Carbon Neutral Newcastle

Newcastle is leading a green revolution in a bid to become the world's first carbon neutral city.

Carbon dioxide is big news because it is becoming a big problem. Every human being produces carbon dioxide (CO2) just staying alive but we also produce loads more CO2 by burning fossil fuels to heat our homes, power all our electrical gizmos and run our cars.

CO2 build up in the atmosphere causes global warming which is not good news. However you can takes steps to either reduce, reabsorb or offset the CO2 you produce.

Carbon Neutral NewcastleEach year Newcastle residents produce 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 - enough to fill St James' Park 760 times! The Carbon Neutral Newcastle campaign aims to enthuse local people and businesses to make changes as well as showing the rest of the world just how it should be done. There is even a carbon neutral Metro train!

Everyone can make a difference - if you visit the Carbon Neutral website you can get handy tips to reduce your CO2 emissions or use the carbon calculator to work out how many trees you need to plant to offset your daily commute or holiday flight.
